Perfect Pour Rx Sep 2026
As the days get cooler and Fall starts approaching, here is what I would prescribe for you to try:
Best Buys: White: Soave DOC. (Italy). Many under $20. From North East Italy near Verona, this wine made from Garanega grapes and has a lean dry style with citrus and almond notes. Suggested Food Pairings: - Any seafood, chicken and dishes with aromatic herbs (tarragon, etc.)
Red: GSM (Franc, Australia, and USA) $15-$25. This classic Rhone (France) style wine blends Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes (GSM) to make a delicious lighter bodied, fruity red wine pairs well with many different foods especially red meats, roasted poultry, and many cheeses and desserts.
Splurge Buy: Pinot Noir from Santa Rita Hills, CA. ($45-$60). This expression of Pinot is fresh and versatile and pairs with almost anything. It’s lighter body, low tannins and high acid complements grilled salmon, any mushroom dish, grilled lamb chops and fresh creamy cheeses like Brie.
Hidden Gem: Kirkland Gigondas (Costco, $15). This is a sensational wine, for the price, produced in Gigondas France in the southern Rhone Valley. Classic GSM Style with 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre. Balanced, complex and very food friendly!
